Ingrown hairs are hairs that grow back into the skin or hair follicle. This is most common in areas of the skin where the hair removed (by shaving, plucking, waxing, electrolysis, depilatory creams). When the hairs start to grow again, they can easily curl in their hair follicle. The hair can result in non-refuge from the skin surface. As the hair continues to grow through curly hair in the follicle, it creates an ugly red bump on the skin. These lumps can also irritate the skin and infect again. And there may even arise from pustules.
